WALK MEMORIAL TO TEEN WHO LOVED NATURE
THE parents of a teenager who was killed while riding his bike near his home will celebrate his life after naming a special walk in his memory.
Dale Warding, 15, of Mostyn, died in November last year and since then thousands of pounds have been raised in his memory and a bench has been specially carved and placed along The Dale Walk, where he spent many hours.
About 100 people, including his parents, Tony and Gaynor, will meet at Garth Mill, near Mostyn, to walk four miles through woodland, open fields and country lanes, including a section through Coed y Garth, a wood which is in the care of The Woodland Trust which they have named The Dale Way.
Dale’s family will celebrate the life of their son and also to help raise money for two charities which he was passionate about, including The Woodland Trust and the building of a climbing wall in his home village.
A special bench has been sculpted from an oak log by wood carver Jim Heath and is now in place in Coed y Garth, for use by those who come to enjoy the wood where Dale spent many happy hours walking with his dog, Tigger.
Tony and Gaynor said: “Dale was passionate about his environment, about nature and about wildlife.
Birds
“He joined the RSPB, he rescued many birds including seagulls and a young owl, but we drew the line when he brought home an injured rat.
“Dale did some charity work for The Woodland Trust, planting trees in a local woods, and he was passionate about climbing, arranging many trips out in the North Wales area with his friends.
“Dale was also passionate about photography and we have no doubt he would have realised his ambition of being a wildlife photographer.
“We miss Dale more than we can ever express in words, we’re proud of what he achieved in his short life and grateful for the precious time we had together.
“By arranging the walk and the climbing wall we hope to encourage others to get out there and enjoy the great outdoors, as our Dale did.”
Those who are unable to take part in the walk but would like to give to the memorial fund are welcome to send donations to The Woodland Trust, Freepost GM63/2, Grantham Lincolnshire, NG31 6BR, quoting supporter number 303199705.
Tony and Gaynor would welcome more walkers, but ask that people register in advance by visiting www.thedaleway.org, the web site they have set up in memory of Dale, where you can also make donations to the climbing wall fund.
The walk starts at noon on Sunday from Garth Mill, near Mostyn.
